We Love This Jaw-Dropping Empire Strikes Back Poster, and It Knows

Bottleneck, Ish, and Acme teamed up with Martin Ansin to continue their Star Wars art series.

Clearly, The Empire Strikes Back is one of the most epic movies of all time. A top-tier sci-fi extravaganza that’s not just the best Star Wars movie, but maybe one of the best sequels of all time. A movie like that deserves a poster of similar power and while Empire has had plenty over the years, this new one ranks right up there.

Acme Archives, Ish, and Bottleneck Gallery have teamed up with artist Martin Ansin to do this stunning poster for The Empire Strikes Back. It’s Ansin’s second original trilogy poster (A New Hope was released in 2020), but this one may be even better than the last. It comes in four different editions and io9 is excited to exclusively reveal them all. Here on your phone or computer, they’ll all look similar, but in reality, they won’t at all.

First up is the regular edition. This is a 12-color, 24 x 36-inch screen print, that will be available in a timed edition from noon ET on July 24, to 11:59 p.m. ET on July 28. That means they’ll print as many as they sell in that window. It costs $75. Check it out.

For the collector that wants something a bit more limited, there’s the foil variant, which shimmers because it’s on foil. That’s also a 12-color, 24 x 36-inch screen print which is a limited edition of 375. It costs $85.

Now the fun part. They’re also releasing two, three-layered acrylic panels. One with titles, the other without. Again, it’s hard to see here, but these will literally be layered like in this social media post. The one with titles is an edition of 125 and the one without is an edition of 75. Each costs $175.

Seriously this is just incredible work by Ansin… even if Han Solo is wearing his screen-accurate, but culturally shunned, brown Hoth jacket. There are details like that everywhere. The Emperor in the top left subtly looming over everything. The bounty hunters in the top right, there because they’re awesome. And Vader between Luke and Leia in a pose that is certainly deliberate.

All the posters go on sale at noon ET July 24 at bottleneckgallery.com.
